The relief history collection includes records of the New England Kansas, Kansas Central, and Kansas Centennial relief committees, dated 1860-1875. The majority of the records consist of correspondence, receipts, account books, shipping orders, and records of grain, livestock, and goods shipped to various Kansas counties. Several files are organized alphabetically by county, and contain correspondence between county-level relief agents and relief commission officials concerning shipments and need. The correspondence also discusses ailments causing crop and livestock failures, such as grasshoppers and Texas Fever. Oversize records include statistical reports created by county relief agents documenting good shipped and distributed to each Kansas county, dated 1860-1861. The majority of the records are of the New England Kansas Relief Committee, also known as the Kansas Relief Committee.
